Rock Drilon Recent Paintings: The Iloilo Period

Clouds of hues blanketing each other, curves of loops making love to each other, shapes trying to emerge through all of these elements, this is what a Rock Drilon painting makes the audience see and feel. Each work is a collective stroke of art that evoke thoughts and emotions. And it is best showcased in his latest exhibit, Rock Drilon Recent Paintings: The Iloilo Period, at the UPV Art Gallery.

Rock Drilon has emerged as an important figure of Philippine contemporary art and has since showed his works to the global audience. In 2013, he moved to Iloilo. He then set up a studio and started painting.

Moving On II is a selection of paintings done in his hometown, spanning two years of work. Although Rock Drilon has explored different forms, the artist himself has been an abstractionist for two decades now. The years behind these works are apparent in each brushstroke that looks as if they’re remembrance of a memory, flowing forward to an unending movement. Some of the figures float, some are intertwined, some are intricate, some are loose; but they all are seemingly trying to speak of his recent years as an artist and maybe as a person.
