PANAYlaytay: A living narrative moving through the historical vein of Panay Identity

The USA campus transforms into a history and culture-heritage walk as we embrace the meaning of Pagpanday (Rebuild): Unearthing the struggles of the past and present, traversing the challenges of building a nation. The artist community embarks on a multi-platform performance exhibition weaving a fabric of Panay contemporary art and visual narrative. The performance ride features a mirage of characters of significant era in the past and present reflecting a Panay historical landscape scarred with colonization, war, revolution, disaster and freedom. The campus opens its doors once again being the first University in Western Visayas to journey into heritage across history through creative heart works.

The USA Troubadours welcomes you with “Kruhay”, a Kinaray-a for “Welcome”. Kinaray-a is a language spoken in the island of Panay. The song narrates the festive arrival of the Bornean Datus in province of Antique, Southern part of Panay and the displacement of the Aeta indigenous community.

A collaborative team of women artists breathes life to the Panay women characters, women who are the repository of tradition as culture bearers of the new generation. We give you a glimpse of Pagbanhaw (Rebirth): a site specific performance of the resurrection of Panay women archetypes unearthing the unwritten, untold, invisible, intuitive characters of significant periods in history.

As you wind through the corridors of the campus, we splash you with colors of Pagpasad (Recreate): a visual art exhibition as each artist, designer, architect reinvents the Panay’s mindscapes in material culture and sub-cultures in their visual narrative. The Identity and body memory unravels the angst, inner joy and self discovery in the massive self-portraits of the Fine Arts students as they navigate around self narratives.
